In a pinch you can use your shoelaces to start a fire.

This video from Ultimate Survival Tips on CarbonTV shows you how to make a fire using your shoelaces. First you need to replace your existing shoelaces with paracord laces like the ones in the video. You also need to a mini ferro rod which you will place inside of you paracord laces. In an emergency situation you simple take the ferro rod out of the lace and you can use the left over paracord as tinder.
